Devon Domestic Abuse Support Service (DDASS) is a charity that offers advice, guidance and support to women, men and children affected by domestic abuse.
Our main aims are to increase safety and improve wellbeing.

We have a helpline, an adult Outreach service, a children support service and currently run a perpetrator programme in Exeter.

Our helpline workers take calls from anyone who wants to contact us for one off advice or who wants to self referral for on-going support. The helpline can help with advice and guidance, safety planning and signposting to other agencies, like solicitors, housing, food banks etc.
Our helpline can also help with agency enquiries.
For anyone who wants on-going support, the helpline will complete the referral process so that an Outreach worker can be allocate.

Our Outreach workers offer one to one support to women and men who are experiencing current domestic abuse. This might be by a partner or ex-partner (same or opposite sex) or family member. We also recognise that children (up to 18 and grown up children) can display abusive behaviour and we offer specific support around those issues. The support might be by phone or face to face.

We can meet with clients in their own home (if safe) or in other community locations, like GP surgeries, children centres, cafe's - anywhere safe and confidential.
We help with safety planning, advice, guidance and explore options that are specific to each person. We can help to get access to protective court orders, advice re safe housing options, give practical support, accompany to agency appointments where needed and liaise with agencies on the client's behalf.

We are in process of setting up a voluntary support service for individuals, who have experienced domestic abuse in the past and who are still affected emotionally by this. Support from this service will mainly be around dealing with the impact of domestic abuse with the aim of improving wellbeing.

Our children's workers offer advice to children who have been affected by witnessing domestic abuse. They can offer one to one support to children from 11 years and support the non abusive parent to address any issues for children up to 11 years old. Generally the children's worker together with the parent, will assess what the best support and way forward is for the family.
Parents can self refer to access the children service.

The perpetrator programme runs over 25 weeks and addresses issues of physical respect, intimacy and sexual respect, emotional respect, domestic abuse and the impact on children and rebuilding trust and respect. It is aimed at men who recognise that their behaviour is abusive and who take responsibility for their behaviour and want to change their ways. We recognise that women can also be abusive, but currently only run a course for men.
